FOR YOUR TIMEPIECE

Instructions

Our master watchmakers carefully assemble and finish each watch by the Gulf of Finland, ensuring that every watch is optimized and thoroughly checked for performance. Rest easy knowing that your watch is ready for action right out of the box.

Watches are highly complex machines that require proper care and attention to ensure longevity. It is important to follow our guidelines provided here to guarantee proper functioning of your watch.

The power reserve

Our watch collection consists of mechanical timepieces with an automatic movement. All of them requires winding before first use or after being stopped. This ensures enough power reserve to keep the watch running well.

The watch can be wound from the crown and there is no risk of overwinding it. To ensure adequate power, we recommend rotating the crown approximately 20-30 times.

WEARING & WINDING

Position 0

When the watch’s crown is pushed in all the way or fully screwed-down against the case, it is in its normal position and ready to be worn. The wearer can also manually wind the movement if needed by rotating the crown forward.

Screw down crown

To wind a watch with a screw down crown (like in Flying Finn or Vetehinen), the crown must be unscrewed first.

Before winding and setting time and date, unscrew the crown until it turns freely to release it from the threads. To return the screw down crown to its wearing position, press it against the case and rotate forward simultaneously.

Setting the date and time

The time - Position 1

To set the date on your watch, pull the crown out one position and turn it to advance the date. To prevent confusion between midnight and noon, advance the hands past midnight to allow the date to change (see POS 2). This will ensure that the date changes correctly.

NOTE: We recommend adjusting the date of the watch when the hands are not close to the midnight position. It’s best to adjust the date when the hands are between 2 and 9 o’clock. This will help prevent any potential damage to the watch.

The Date - Position 2

To adjust the time on your watch, pull the crown out two positions and turn it to set the correct hour and minute. Once the time is set, push the crown back in and screw it down firmly (if your model requires it).

NOTE: Prior to adjusting the date and time or winding, it is important to remove the watch from your wrist to prevent exerting excessive pressure on the crown. Otherwise, the water resistance of the watch may be compromised.

Setting the moonphase

Position 1

To set the phases of the moon on your watch, pull the crown out one position and turn it to move the moon phase indicator.

NOTE: We recommend adjusting the moon indicator of the watch when the hands are not close to the midnight position. It’s best to adjust the date when they are between 2 and 9 o’clock.

Water resistance

No watch can be made completely waterproof; this is why the term ‘water resistance’ is used. S.U.F Helsinki watches are designed and tested with a water resistance of 50 to 300 meters depending on the model.

Always remember to rinse your watch under clean water after being in contact with sea water and dry well.

To avoid water damage, it’s important not to wind or correct the time of your watch when there’s any chance of contact with water. It’s also important to always push the crown back in after setting the date or time.

Over time, your watch’s water resistance will naturally decrease, so we recommend to have it tested for water resistance regularly.

SERVICE & OILING

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance of your watch. Just like any fine machine, it requires oiling and adjustment to ensure that it is running correctly and efficiently over extended periods of time.

Your watch should be thoroughly cleaned, oiled, and tested for water resistance by the S.U.F Helsinki workshop or a qualified master watchmaker in your area once every 5 years of continuous use.

We strongly advise you to contact us for service guidelines before allowing a watchmaker to open your S.U.F Helsinki watch. This will help ensure proper handling and maintenance of your watch.
